Checkpoints 12 and 13: Multimedia (Text Track, Transcript, Assistive Player) and Flickering

Transcripts

For this checkpoint, you will determine whether multimedia has a synchronized text track (e.g. open or closed captions) that is provided with all video content. There should also be a transcript provided with all audio content. Audio/video content should also be delivered via a media player that is compatible with assistive technology. Find the specified number of multimedia in the ebook and search for availability of a text track. If the multimedia contain text tracks, then multimedia passes. For the additional information column, use a ratio to explain how many multimedia pass for text track and how the entire text was evaluated. If no multimedia were found, then mark n/a in the pass/fail column and describe how no multimedia were found in the additional and details column. For the second part of multimedia, there should be a transcript available. Here is an example of what a multimedia transcript could look like.

In the additional information column of your Excel sheet, explain in a ratio how many multimedia pass for having a transcript and how the entire text was used. In the details column, explain where the multimedia were found and if a transcript was included. Next, describe how Adobe Digital Editions was used. If no multimedia were found throughout the whole textbook, mark n/a in the pass/fail column and explain how no multimedia were found. The third part of the multimedia checkpoint is evaluating the assistive player. However, we are not using an assistive player, so mark n/a in the pass/fail column. Explain in the additional information and details column how an assistive player is not used.

The thirteenth checkpoint explains how resources should not contain anything that flashes more than three times in any one-second period. If any content within the eBook flashes more than 3 times in a 1 second period then Fail this checkpoint. As a note, there have been no examples of flickering content found. For this checkpoint, you need to check the whole book for any flickering. This checkpoint passes if there was no flickering. If you do find flickering, then state which pages flickered and the checkpoint fails.
