Guest Speaker Laura Castañeda: U.S-Mexico Border and Immigration Issues

castanedaThe Department of Journalism & Mass Communication Guest Speaker Series encourages students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the University community to attend its Guest Speaker event, hosting the Chair, Department of Communications from San Diego City College, Laura Castañeda.

On November 5 in the Karl Anatol Center, Laura Castañeda will present “Reporting on United States- Mexico Border and Immigration Issues” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Laura Castañeda is the Chair of the Department of Communications at San Diego City College and an independent producer. She is an Emmy-award winning professional writer, producer, and journalist with more than 20 years of experience in various multimedia platforms and owner of Presspass International, a multimedia video production company. She has also served as host, moderator, and consultant to numerous media projects in English and Spanish. Her first documentary, The Devil’s Breath, about seven border crossers who perished during the 2007 San Diego wildfires, was screened at the San Diego Latino Film Festival in 2008 to a sold out crowd and has aired on the University of California TV cable and satellite network and on San Diego’s PBS affiliate. She also produced and directed a documentary titled, Hybrid Identities, chronicling the blossoming arts community in Tijuana, BC. In 2004, Castañeda launched and produced a bilingual, bicultural, human interest magazine show called Stories de la Frontera, which aired on PBS affiliates in several U.S. cities.
