Seminole Indian dwellings were well suited to the hot, moist climate of
the Southeast.  The sketch shown above was made in the late 1800s, but the
building style dates back to prehistory.  It was usually a simple A-frame
of log-supported poles and grass t hatching for the roof.  In this
example, the dwelling features a raised sleeping platform.  There is a
mortar for grinding corn in by the pole in the right foreground.
