Julie Rivera has served as a lecturer in Chicano Latino Studies since 1998. She earned her Master’s degree in English at Whittier College. Prior to her arrival, she taught English at San Gabriel High School, where she was also English Department Chair and Head Coach of the Academic Decathlon Team. Teaching writin

g skills and composition courses, she provides students with an opportunity to refine their academic writing.

She has been an essay reader for the Educational Testing Service (ETS), since 1987, reading the Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition Examination, the Advanced Placement English Language and Composition Examination, and the SAT II Writing Test.

Her participation as a presenter at a Professional Enhancement Network (PEN Project) workshop, allowed her to reprise the presentation at the Annual Colloquium: For Lecturers by Lecturers at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in May 2001.

She has served on various university committees, recently having been appointed to the President’s Commission on the Status of Women.

In 2006, she was honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award by her alma mater, Whittier College.
