WINTER PROGRAM IN HAVANA CUBA

Program Dates: December 26, 2016-January 20, 2017

Course: CHLS 430: Latino Transnational Experience in the Caribbean: Cuba OR CHLS 499: Directed Studies (3 units)
PLUS: Emancipation and Domination in Struggle: Cuba Today in Latin America (3 units)-
-taught by a team of professors in Cuba

Approximate Travel Cost: $2,945.00 (includes airfare, accommodations, breakfast, dinner, conferences, Cuban visa, and Cuban Medical Insurance)

Deposit: $300 (non-refundable) due (TBA)

Course Description: In this course, students will examine the history of the interaction of Cuba with the United States.  Ever since President Thomas Jefferson expressed interest in annexing Cuba, Cubans have struggled to maintain their autonomy and independence while at the same time being strongly influenced by Amercian culture. In turn, Cubans infused the United States with their strong Afro-Cuban culture. 

Activities include: Workshops, lectures, Art museum, historical tours, trips to local political organizations, and a famous medical school.
