Classics Learning Objectives

Classics majors should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a reading knowledge of classical Latin or ancient Greek equivalent to three years of college study, with the ability to write and communicate both orally and aurally in simple sentences.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of classical antiquity in several of the following areas: archaeology, art, drama, history, linguistics, literature, mythology, philosophy, political structures, religion, social structures, the interaction among ancient cultures, and the influence and relations between classical antiquity and subsequent cultures and civilizations, particularly in the west.
  3. Demonstrate an ability to analyze complex materials and to present the analysis in a manner that can be understood by others.
  4. Demonstrate an ability to write clearly, concisely, and well.
