Richard Powell Award is our highest graduate honor. Alfredo will be recognized in the college commencement program and his name will be on display on a plaque in the department office indefinitely.

Alfredo Alegria

“I attended high school in Laguna Hills at Laguna Hills High School. I attended community college for a few years at Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, CA. After that I transferred to CSULB and got my bachelor’s degree in Economics in May 2015. I decided to enter graduate school immediately after and completed my M.A. in Economics in December 2016. Since graduating I took a position at UC San Diego as an Institutional Research Analyst in the Graduate Division. During my free time I enjoy watching basketball and soccer, building desktop computers, trying new foods and restaurants, and going to the movies. In the future I hope to be able to travel as soon as I accumulate vacation time!” – Alfredo

Wallace Atherton Memorial Award for
Outstanding Graduating Senior of the Year

Andy Nguyen is the recipient of the Wallace Atherton Memorial Award.  This award is our highest undergraduate honor. Andy will be recognized in the college commencement program and his name will be on display on a plaque in the department office indefinitely. He will also lead our undergraduate class into this year’s commencement ceremony as our honored banner carrier.

“I have always been a very curious and number-driven individual. Originally majoring Applied Statistics, I decided to double major in Mathematical Economics after Seiji demonstrated how mathematics was used to drive people’s decisions in Principles of Microeconomics. I hope to work in a data-driven industry where I can apply my analytical skills to optimize business decisions. In the near future, I am planning to get my Masters in Analytics at University of San Francisco.  I am a huge basketball fan, I love talking and playing basketball with my friends. Asides from that, I enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family.” – Andy
