Scholarships 

For the 2019-20 academic year, economics students received a total of $12,300 from department scholarships. We thank our supportive alumni and faculty for recognizing these deserving students’ merit. The department typically offers scholarships for majors and minors once a year. Economics scholarship applications are accepted November through February the year prior to the scholarship award. Each year, scholarship criteria and amounts will be posted on the university’s Beach Scholarship application system. 

If you applied for a 2020-21 Department of Economics Scholarship,  recipients will be announced in April. Regret notifications will be announced in May.

Department of Economics Scholarships

Below is a list of scholarships we have offered in recent years.

Ray & Marge Lancaster Endowment (for 2020-21, up to $2,500)

Criteria: Undergraduate or Graduate with a Major in Economics; Must be enrolled in a minimum 12 units for Undergraduates; 6 units for Graduate; 3.0 Cumulative GPA; Require Financial Aid letter demonstrating need or comparable proof of Financial Need.

Powell Endowed Scholarship (for 2020-21, up to $1,000)

Criteria: 3.0 GPA Min; Economics Major Undergraduate or Graduate continuing student; Full time preferred; Demonstrated financial need

Gene R. Simonson Scholarship (for 2020-21, up to $1,200)

Criteria: 3.0 GPA Min; Enrolled in 12 units; Economics Major or Minor; Undergraduate student; Junior or Senior continuing student.

Settlemeyer Family Scholarship (for 2020-21, up to $900)

Criteria: 3.0 GPA Min; Enrolled in 9 units; Economics Major; Undergraduate Junior or Senior, continuing student; Demonstrated financial need

Economics Scholarship (for 2020-21, none available)

Criteria: Economics Major; Undergradate Junior or Senior standing or Graduate student.; Cumulitive GPA of 3.0 or higher; Students must be enrolled in at least 12 units for Undergraduate; 6 units for Graduate
