Graduate students of English Cortney Kimoto, Sarah Roussin, Corey Leis, and Brian Le presented the panel “Teaching and Learning in Evolving Hybrid Spaces” at the 2012 Young Rhetoricians’ Conference in Monterey, California on June 21st. Using California State University, Long Beach’s Composition at the Beach and other higher education web portals, they explored the theoretical and pedagogical concerns of creating and leveraging a hybrid, on- and offline classroom space. They addressed how implementing open and constantly changing platforms in composition courses can enhance on- and offline interactions among instructors, students, and observers.
Alin Yessaian, a graduate student of English as well, presented the paper “Collaging Digital Spaces: Checking In on Facebook, Heuretics, and Participatory Pattern.”
The Young Rhetoricians’ Conference welcomes ideas for encouraging and enabling students’ skills and passions relative to all aspects of discourse. The conference defines “young” as a rhetorical term denoting a willingness, in the mind, to dance.
