UPDATE:  3/27/2020  – Free Adobe Apps for Students until May 31, 2020

To meet the needs of students who are impacted by the COVID-19 campus building closures, Adobe is offering free, at-home access to their Creative Cloud desktop apps until May 31, 2020.

Students who currently do not have an active Adobe CC account* can now install Adobe Creative Cloud tools at no cost using their CSULB student account:

Be sure to save any files you create with these tools to your computer to ensure no loss of assets after the temporary license expires.

*For students who have already purchased the annual Adobe CC license, Adobe is unable to convert accounts to the temporary license at this time.

UPDATE:  3/20/2020 – COVID-19 and Spring 2020

Based on the latest information we have received from the state; and for the health and safety of our students, we are sorry to announce that the department’s equipment loan program has been SUSPENDED as of 9AM Friday, March 20, 2020.

Students who already have JPR equipment will keep it through the remainder of the semester; the rest will need to do the best they can, while practicing social distancing, with the technology they have on hand, most likely personal equipment you have access to or a smartphone. Please keep this in mind and continue to work with your instructor on how to proceed with best journalism practices in this exceptional time in our history.

Please send equipment, Adobe Creative Cloud and other technology-related questions to Dan at Dan.Olsen@csulb.edu

The Department of Journalism & Public Relations offers a robust inventory of digital tools to all JPR students for use in completing their coursework and other assigned JPR projects.  Our inventory consists of professional quality equipment and is always in high demand by our students (over 200 checkouts per semester and growing).  The availability and security of this equipment is vital to our student’s success.

NEW for 2020!  Adobe Creative Cloud for CSULB students is now available for $20 per YEAR!

Adobe Creative CloudFor $20.00 per year, students can install Creative Cloud on personally-owned computers by purchasing a Creative Cloud subscription through the CSULB Software Depot. Student Creative Cloud subscriptions are good for twelve months after the date they are purchased, and can be renewed until they graduate. For additional information and tutorials, visit Academic Technology Services’ Adobe Creative Cloud web page at https://www.csulb.edu/software-depot/adobe-creative-cloud, to learn more about the software and program.

Equipment Checkout Policy

All students who check out equipment are required to sign an Equipment Checkout Form including liability form once per semester.  Subsequent checkouts will only require your student ID card.  All equipment is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please plan your project work accordingly.  All equipment is expected to be returned in the same working condition it was received, and all batteries charged as a courtesy to the next student.

Students are responsible for providing their own SD cards and storage media.  SD cards are available at the University Bookstore and satellite stores on campus.

All of our equipment for checkout is on an overnight basis only.  That means checkout today and return by 5:00PM tomorrow.  The exception to this is that beginning Thursdays, checkout can be for the entire weekend since so many of our digital projects involve covering weekend events.  Checkouts on Thursday must be returned by Monday at 5:00PM.

Contact

If you have any questions about JPR equipment checkout please contact Dan Olsen in LA4-106A or at dan.olsen@csulb.edu.
