What is your current job?
Has your linguistics major helped your career?
The post graduate degree I received at CSULB enabled me to receive a promotion to a position as a senior lecturer. It is a well-crafted program that lays a good foundation for both those who seek job opportunities in linguistic related fields and people who want to excel in higher studies. The Language and Culture option covered both linguistics and linguistics anthropology which broadened my knowledge and understanding of linguistics as well as my skill base.
Did you enjoy your time in the linguistics program?
Yes, I definitely enjoyed my time at CSULB. I keep in touch with the friends I made while at CSULB via email and Facebook. The best part about the program for me was the field research I did for term papers and for my final thesis. I still recall receiving the Department Award for Excellent Achievement and the Dean’s list Award. Those were memorable moments.
What advice would you offer to current students?
Schedule your program in advance! Students should be aware of the program requirements and make a schedule of the classes they want to take. This will help ensure that you can complete the program in a timely manner.
