Alumnus profile: Vuth Reth
Vuth Reth graduated with an M.A. in Linguistics (TESOL option) in 1999. While at CSULB, he taught Khmer literacy courses for Long Beach’s Cambodian-American community. He has also applied his Linguistics training to working in translation and interpretation.
After earning a PhD, he became Dean of the Faculty of English at Cambodia’s National University of Management, where he teaches business English. He also works at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and is an advisor to the Deputy Prime Minster and the Minister of Defense, regarding foreign affairs. He works closely with the new education minister, Hang Choun Naron, on educational reforms at the national level.
Dr. Reth reports that English is the most popular language to learn in Cambodia right now, and there are many opportunities for Americans who would like to teach English there.
