Dr. Pamela Bunte Title: Professor of Anthropology and Linguistics (Emeritus)     

Education:

Master’s Degree: 1974, French, Indiana University; 1977, Anthropology, Indiana University
Ph.D.: 1979, Anthropology, Indiana University, Bloomington.

Teaching/Research Interests:

Dr. Bunte was a linguistic anthropologist specializing in American Indian language and cultures. Her work  included research with the San Juan Southern Paiute community on language socialization, verbal art, intercultural communication, and language maintenance/revitalization. A number of graduate students participated in linguistic fieldwork with the San Juan Paiute. She  worked with the San Juan Paiute Tribe on their successful federal recognition case and have continued to work with the San Juan Paiute Tribe on land claims and other applied projects. She also worked with a team of CSULB graduate students on the Little Shell Chippewa of Montana Federal recognition project for the Native American Rights Fund. In addition to her Native American research, she was involved in both applied and linguistic anthropology projects with the Cambodian community in Long Beach.
