Practicum in TESOL (Summer 2013)
Sixteen linguistics M.A. and TESOL Certificate students took Linguistics 593: Practicum in TESOL at the Eastern International University (EIU) in Binh Duong New City, Binh Duong Province, Vietnam during 24 days between May 17 and June 9, 2013. On weekdays, they observed English classes of different content and levels. Each student taught a lesson in one of the classes they observed. On the two weekends, they went on field trips to the Cu Chi Tunnels, Cai Be Floating Market, and Reunification Palace with EIU student representatives.
Practicum in TESOL (Summer 2011)
In the 17 days between Saturday, May 21 and Monday, June 6, 2011, Nine linguistics M.A. and TESOL Certificate students took the study abroad Linguistics 593: Practicum in TESOL at Beijing Language and Culture University in China. They observed English reading, writing, listening, and speaking classes. Each student also taught a lesson in one of the classes they observed. On the two weekends, students participated in field trips to the Great Wall, the Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace.
Practicum in TESOL (Summer 2010)
Seven linguistics M.A. and TESOL Certificate students took Linguistics 593: Practicum in TESOL at Beijing Language and Culture University in China during 17 days between May 22 and June 7, 2010. They observed English and Japanese classes of different content and levels on weekdays. Each student taught a lesson in one of the classes they observed. On the two weekends, students went on field trips to the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, the Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall.
Practicum in TESOL (Summer 2009)
In the 16 days between May 23 and Monday, June 7, 2009, 14 linguistics graduate students took the study abroad Linguistics 593: Practicum in TESOL at Beijing Language and Culture University in China. They observed English reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar classes and Japanese classes. Each student also taught a lesson in one of the classes they observed. On the two weekends, students participated in field trips to the Great Wall, the Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace.
Practicum in TESOL (Summer 2008)
Sixteen linguistics M.A. and TESOL Certificate students took a condensed study abroad course (Linguistics 593: Practicum in TESOL) at Qingdao University in China between May 24 and June 16, 2008. They observed various English, Chinese and Japanese classes, taught a lesson in one of the classes they observed, and reflected on their observation and teaching both in class sessions and in writing. After the course completed, students went on field trips to Beijing, Xian, Guilin and Shanghai.
Practicum in TEFL (Summer 2006)
Eight linguistics graduate students took a condensed study abroad course (Linguistics 593: Practicum in TESL) at Mingchuan University in Taoyuan, Taiwan between May 20 and June 4, 2006. They observed different classes, taught a lesson in one of the classes they observed, and reflected on their observation and teaching both in class sessions and in writing. Master’s degree students of the Applied English Department at Mingchuan University organized two events for the CSULB students, one on campus and the other off campus.
Practicum in TEFL (Summer 2005)
Four linguistics graduate students attended a course in China between May 28 and June 12, 2005. They visited five cities (Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Qingdao, and Beijing), toured nine campuses (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Soochow University, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing Normal University Experimental High School, Nanjing Qingliangshan Elementary School, Qingdao University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing Normal University, and Beijing Haidian District No. 3 Experimental Elementary School), and observed 13 classes (1 on physics, 10 on English, and 2 on linguistics).
