Basic Qualifying Exam (FA16)

Announcement Regarding FA16 BQE

The Graduate Committee has determined the FA16 dates and times for the MA program’s Basic Qualifying Examination (BQE). (This announcement applies to those graduate students who have not yet achieved classified status and so still need to attempt/pass the BQE.)

  • The BQE orientation meeting is scheduled for 5:30pm-6:30pm on Tuesday September 27th.
  • The analytic exam is scheduled for 1:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday November 5th.
  • The text exam is scheduled for 1:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday November March 12th. The texts for the text exam are: Dan Dennett’s (1971) ‘Intentional Systems’ and Peter Singer’s (1976) ‘All Animals Are Equal?’.

All BQE events will take place in the Philosophy Department seminar room (MHB-915). If you are planning on taking either portion of the BQE this semester but have a schedule conflict with any of these times, please let the Graduate Coordinator, Charles Wallis, know at your earliest convenience.

Also, note that Dr. Wallis will hold three analytic exam review sessions (October 4th, October 11th, October 18th), contingent upon expressions of interest prior to those dates. Consequently, if you would like to attend a review session, contact Dr. Wallis to express your interest.
