Clinical Science

Clinical Science applies scientific knowledge to the assessment, understanding, and amelioration of psychopathology. This discipline integrates empiricism and application to address clinical concerns. Faculty in this area have clinical training, and they work toward developing an empirical knowledge base in the field. Research in this area aims to contribute knowledge to the understanding, treatment and prevention of psychological problems.

Faculty involved in research in this area:

Chi-Ah Chun (Professor): Asian American mental health; Cultural variations in stress and coping and in manifestations of psychological distress; Psychiatric epidemiology.

Martin Fiebert (Professor): Gestalt therapy; Psychodynamic therapy; Spiritual and meditational teachings.

Araceli Gonzalez (Assistant Professor):

Sherry Span (Professor): Risk factors for substance abuse; Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder; Clinical Neuropsychology

Guido Urizar (Associate Professor): Cognitive-behavioral therapy; Minority Mental Health; Chronic disease prevention & management; Health behavior change; Mood disorders
