Research Interests
My research work has nearly all concerned Early Modern France, especially the seventeenth century, its antecedents and later repercussions in French culture and history, especially concerning theater and specifically comic and/or musical theater. I have worked to integrate these research interests with teaching, from survey courses to graduate seminars. I try to seek out connections between esthetics and social and historical currents from Early Modern to the modern era from around the mid-nineteenth century. Music, art and film are also central to my concerns.

Instruction and related activities
Professor for French at California State University Long Beach since 2004. I have taught the Self and Society Capstone course, Seventeenth Century, Renaissance, and Comic Traditions literature seminars, French Linguistics, French Cinema, introductory literature surveys, advanced grammar and composition, second year language and advanced conversation.
