Congratulations Sociology graduates and recent Alums

The Sociology Department congratulates the following Sociology students/graduates/alums for their amazing accomplishments:

  1. Maria Ceja (graduating senior, May 2019) – Maria has recently been accepted to the Master in Urban and Regional Planning program at UC-Irvine with a fellowship.  She will be focusing her studies on housing and tenant rights issues, urban environmental inequality and justice, and community development in Latinx communities, particularly Santa Ana, CA.
  1. Samantha Powell (B.A graduate, May 2018) – Samantha has been accepted to the Master of Public Health program at UC-San Diego. She is still waiting to receive decisions on her application from other universities. She plans to focus her graduate work on epidemiology.
  1. Mayra Hernandez (B.A graduate, May 2018) – Mayra has been accepted to UCLA’s Master of Social Welfare program, where she has also been nominated for a university fellowship. Mayra also received admissions from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the University of Washington.   Mayra intends to pursue a career in social work focusing on the needs of and services for children, youth, and families.
  1. Anna Reeves (B.A graduate, May 2018) – Anna has just been accepted to the Master in Counseling  at CSULB and CSU-Northridge. She intends to pursue a carer as a school counselor. 
  1. Mackenzie Hill (B.A graduate/sociology minor, May 2019) – Mackenzie has been accepted to several Master of Social Work programs,  including those at UCLA, USC, CSULB, and CSU-Fullerton. She will be attending CSULB’s MSW program in the Fall, and focus her studies on the needs of and services for developmentally-challenged populations. 
  1. Ryan Oda (B.A graduate/sociology minor, May 2019) – Ryan has been accepted to the City Year Program, a public service program designed to recruit teachers and mentors for socially-disadvantaged schools. Ryan is also considering other public service opportunities, and plans future graduate study in public policy.
