Faculty Achievements

Sociology Department Faculty have:

  • Published more than 35 academic journal articles and book chapters and three books (Legions of Boom; Pimping the Welfare System; and Solidarity Forever?) over the past few years.
  • Presented over 30 research papers/posters at regional, national and international conferences.
  • Have been invited to speak at venues including Brown University, Boston University, Harvard University, Oberlin College, Emory University, Vassar College, University of Paris, University of Padova (Italy), University of Florida, Pannasastra University, Cambodia and University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Amnesty International.
  • Authored numerous newspaper/magazine articles and op-ed pieces.
  • Participated in dozens of grassroots community organization events and training workshops and served on 4 community organization boards.
  • Authored numerous policy reports and papers.
  • Been awarded grants and fellowships from prestigious institutions and organizations including: CSULB – Research Infrastructure for Minorities Program, RIMI, the American Sociological Association’s Minority Fellowship Program (MFP).
    Fulbright Scholarship Program, Center for Khmer Studies, Haynes Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the American Association of University Women.
  • Received awards for excellence in teaching, research and community service.
