Please join us for a special collaborative event, co-sponsored by MAPS, SOC, CHLS, CLA, & the Dream Success Center, featuring the latest research on “undocuactivism” in the US. This free social justice themed event will begin with a welcoming and introduction by Enrique Campos, Assistant Director of the Dream Success Center, and lead into a lecture by Dr. Joanna Perez (followed by Q&A).

Dr. Joanna Perez is the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants who was born and raised in a predominantly Latino immigrant community in Los Angeles, California. In 2009, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a double minor in Labor & Workplace Studies and Civic Engagement from UCLA. More recently, Dr. Perez earned a Master of Arts degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Sociology with a minor in Latina/Latino Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on how systems of power and inequality as well as the intersectionality between race, class, gender, sexuality, and immigration status impact marginalized communities. In particular, Dr. Perez’s current research centers on activism among Latina/o undocumented immigrant young adults in the U.S. Overall, Dr. Perez is a scholar-activist who is passionate about social justice and working towards changing the social conditions of marginalized communities.
