“Unslut” Documentary Screening and Q&A with Filmmaker Emily Lindin

Join us as the Department of WGSS presents the documentary “Unslut” with a Panel Discussion by filmmaker Emily Lindin.

Sexually violent experiences are deeply embedded within our political, social, historical, and personal contexts. In order to acknowledge the complexity and diversity of our experiences, sexual violence must be considered in relation to structures of domination. Survivors are blamed for inciting assaults and are sexually shamed. The results are profound and devastating, with sexual shaming exacerbating violence, manifesting itself in the form of bullying, harassment, the proliferation of revenge porn, doxing, death threats through social media, and suicide. What is consent? What is sexual shaming? How can we understand and use technology as a tool of resistance to sexual shaming and oppression? As a way to catalyze these conversations, this event will showcase the work of Bay Area based activist and filmmaker Emily Lindin, and her documentary “UnSlut.”.
