WGSS Alum Abeni Moreno Publishes Children’s Book

Dear Big Brother is a story of a young woman and all the unforgettable memories she shared with her older brother during her adolescence. She gently recalls playful times, important lessons and the support she received from her big brother when she needed it most. Now its time to return the love as she reminds him, “Dear Big Brother, I hope you know… not all brothers are like you” as she devises a letter him to acknowledge all the good he has brought to her life.

​This story is based off of real life memories with my older brother during my childhood. ‘Dear Big Brother’ aims to present a new story that embodies a positive perspective of young Chicano men that very seldom gets told in media, books or films. I hope to show the reality of young Latino men as loving, paternal and knowledgeable while simultaneously displaying the importance of investing in our little ones that surround us.
