The Department of Communication Studies proudly announces Jee Hong as the 2012 Audrey Nichol Hauth Scholarship recipient. Jee was recognized with this award on September 21, 2012 in the Luster E. and Audrey Nichol Hauth Center for Communication Skills where she was introduced to both Luster and Audrey Hauth.
Jee carries 14 units each semester and maintains a 3.7 GPA. She is confident that the Communication Studies curriculum benefits her everyday life and prepares her for multiple careers. “Communication Studies is integral to society as it allows us to understand others and exchange messages effectively,” says Jee. “Communication Studies classes have definitely shown me the power of words and interpersonal relations in both public and personal spheres, especially the personal.”
Audrey Hauth made a generous donation that created the Audrey Nichol Hauth Scholarship in the Department of Communication Studies. To qualify for the scholarship, the recipient must demonstrate a financial need in order to graduate, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2, and be an upper-level undergraduate or graduate student with a major or minor in Communication Studies. The recipient of the scholarship is also required to work eight hours per week in the Hauth Center and present proficiency in public speaking.
Both Luster and Audrey Hauth maintain a deep-rooted connection to California State University, Long Beach. Luster taught at CSULB for 28 years in the Department of Communication Studies, and is now an emeritus professor of the department. Audrey is an alumna of CSULB, graduating with a degree in English Literature. Together, they have created the Luster E. and Audrey Nichol Hauth Center for Communication Skills. In further support of the Department of Communication Studies, Luster has donated a collection of his personal library to the department as well as an endowed fund to support the maintenance of the collection. This donation created the Luster E. Hauth Rhetoric and Public Address Library Collection, and is located in the third floor conference room of the Academic Services (AS) building.
