April 17, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-04-17 at 9.45.07 AMOn April 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a student-organized event for the new Minor in Global Migration Studies (GMS).

The current administration has now deported over 2 million people, using tactics that have been used in previous administrations to target immigrant people of color. “Operation Wetback” (1954) was an operation designed by both Mexican and U.S. governments to specifically deport Mexicans out of the United States.

Alexis Nava Teodoro, a Chicano and Latino Studies major, has organized this event from his work to stop deportation proceedings. The presentation and panel discussions will be led by migrant organizers and people facing deportation. They will discuss their work in Los Angeles and Orange County and their experiences fighting deportations. The event will address how students can join the movement to fight against deportations and fight for human rights. The event will be held in Lecture Hall 150.
