Thank you for your interest in making a gift to the Jewish Studies Program at California State University, Long Beach!

Led by Dr. Jeffrey Blutinger and an active Leadership Board that is comprised of respected members of the Long Beach Jewish community, the Jewish Studies Program has positioned itself as a critical component of Jewish life in the Long Beach and Orange County areas. The program facilitates a wide range of activities designed to engage and educate the public and funding can be earmarked to support the following areas:

  • Eva and Eugene Schlesinger Teacher Training Endowed Workshop on the Holocaust — Ongoing fundraising efforts to support the workshop are earmarked for supplementing the experience of teacher participants as they convene on campus. Each year, this workshop serves as one of the most significant services the Jewish Studies Program offers all year. It brings high school teachers on campus for curriculum development that will enable them to teach students about the Holocaust in an age-appropriate way and covers a different theme each year. Jewish Studies tracks its workshop success through teacher feedback. The Program tracks the workshop’s success through teacher feedback, and teachers continually speak on how helpful the course was in their instruction and how it enabled them to assist colleagues. The workshop fits into the mission of Jewish Studies at CSULB by moving the Program more and more into the field of teacher preparation and education.
  • Special Courses Fund — Courses offer small enrollments and maximum student/faculty collaboration. Topics include Hebrew, Culture and Society, and Religion and Thought.
  • Endowed Travel Fund — The Jewish Studies Program has launched a campaign initiative to endow a travel fund for projects that will advance instruction and scholarship in Jewish Studies. Once complete, this endowment will provide funding in perpetuity for Jewish Studies students to travel far and wide as ambassadors and scholars to international universities, libraries, and important historic sites.
  • General Program Support — Maintaining a strong general support fund allows for Dr. Blutinger to meet the greatest needs of the Program as they develop. This fund facilitates the annual speakers’ series, marketing the program to prospective students, and represents the greatest area of need.
